4.2 Patterns - Truegold not among the materials!

There's been some who have wondered if stocking up on Truegold for 4.2 may be a good idea.  A lot have assumed that the crafted epics will involve Truegold.  Well, the 4.2 loot lists and crafted recipes have been released and, as of this posting, Truegold is not mentioned anywhere. Blacksmithing seems to be making use of Hardened Elementium Bars instead of Truegold.

Pretty much everything seems to require Volatile Fire, other than Tailoring recipes which do involve Dreamcloth but no direct requirement for Fire.  So it looks like, in my eyes, the things to stock up on for 4.2 are Volatile Fire and Dreamcloth, not Truegold.  It may also be useful to stock up on Volatile Earth to make all the Hardened Elementium, but without a doubt Fire will be the most in-demand Volatile.

Of course, this is always subject to change but I for one will not be putting too much money into Truegold with great expectations for 4.2 profits.

Edit 9/6/2011: Noticed for some reason this has jumped to my most viewed blog post of all time. o.O  Anyways, just wanted to add this in; a bit after posting this I posted a correction that is very relevant: Truegold Still in 4.2!  (Of course, 4.2's release has passed and we all know this by now, I just wanted to include this since, apparently, people still view this particular entry a lot.)

  1. O hai! Just dropped in to let you know that I attached a screenshot of the lewts to the 90,000g per kill trick you inquired about at my blog. You should tell about the method at nerf faids too! :) It's priceless imo.

  2. @Kuja That's ridiculous, as if the mount didn't make this desirable enough to camp! xD Thanks for providing the screenshot!

  3. Thanks for sussing this out. Looks like I might want to shift my Alchy's daily Xmutes to fire. (If the price of fire isn't way under the price of air. If it is I'd be better selling my airs as per usual and buying fires.)

Ah the joys of having many professions: the ability to turn on a dime.

  4. I think I will just continue to buy VFs when below the current market price. Worse case is I use them for crafting or whatever. Best case, they appreciate significantly in price.

I think there will still be some value in Truegold just because players who are coming up will want or need the current patterns that require them, but who knows? The new patterns may just make the current ones obsolete.

  6. I saw this as well and I was thinking about it. If it is indeed correct then truegold loses a lot of its value due to the very few recipes that would be using it. I can't see this happening long term so in my mind either the recipes are not 100% correct yet (blizzard playing with us market manipulaters?), Something else will be coming with truegold, or this will be an error and then the next big content patch something will come with truegold.

  7. It looks like the Tailoring items are all BoP, so unlikely to be any use in making money...

  8. I see truegold in most blacksmithing weapon recipes. You might need to look a little deeper. Looks like most require 8 Truegold. Based on wowhead ptr datamining.

  9. As Oscar said, there are a batch of new BS patterns for crafting i363 weapons, all of which use Truegold. MMO-Champ probably didn't include them because the patterns are Rare, not Epic. (Though the weapons themselves are epics)
